As an organisation we are delighted to support you as you think about training.
We can provide a session on WHY Motional exists and what it can do for you, your setting and those in your care. This will cover who we are, how we got here, the evidence base and of course all you need to know about how to use Motional from Snapshots through to Programs and more. We deliver this in short 60-75 minute sessions. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss!
We don’t have the capacity to provide other training nor do we recommend any particular provider, though we do have some general thoughts about approach: the evidence is clear that we should take a ‘whole school approach’ (Kim, 2021; O’Conner et al., 2017; Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia, 2003; Wells et al., 2003) and is promoted by the World Health Organisation, Public Health England and Ofsted/Estyn amongst others.
We believe consideration needs to be given to effective use of the school/setting's budget and a Needs Analysis considered. This is very formal language but in-short :
What skills do you have and what do you need?
- Consider the budget
- Consider a ‘continuous’ approach to development
- Focus on the whole school training element delivered routinely as ongoing CPD through twilight sessions, etc. rather than a short, sharp one-off
- Exercise caution about investing heavily in specific individuals (if they leave they can take that knowledge with them) where the same investment might be better utilised across the whole school
- Engage your stakeholders (children/parents/governors and staff)
- Create a working/action group
- Develop a plan and ensure this is integrated with your setting's improvement approach (such as a School Improvement Plan)
Motional itself is a collaborative tool designed to complement your team’s professional experience, expertise and judgement. Those with greater training will certainly be able to utilise that knowledge and those skills. Fundamentally though, Motional is a collaborative tool designed to be used by all staff.
