In this video, Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D., discusses “Name It to Tame It,” a strategy she shares in her book, THE WHOLE-BRAIN CHILD, which she co-authored with Dr. Dan Siegel.
First aired during the COVID-19 pandemic, it describes how children (just like us) are dealing with a lot of unpredictability, and this strategy of naming our feelings helps to reduce the reactivity in our brains. It’s based on the science that when we become aware of and accurately describe what we’re feeling, it actually helps make the brain more integrated. This allows us to be more flexible, adaptive, coherent, energised, and stable.
